Any plant that lives for 3 or more years when it's grown in conditions to its liking is called perennial. Perennials come in all shapes and sizes and include plant families from bulbs such as daffodils through to herbs like oregano. Shrubs and trees are perennials too. These plants die back to the ground after the growing season only to return the following spring, summer or fall in all their glory, often bigger than before.
